Women throughout Marina Del Rey and Hawthorne seek out BOTOX® treatment from Dr. Jamie Lipeles at Marina OB/GYN.
Dr. Lipeles' BOTOX® procedures offer attractive, yet natural-looking results.
Dr. Lipeles is skilled at injecting just the right amount of BOTOX® to ensure our patients stay looking true to themselves. Depending on the amount that is injected, patients can retain a degree of facial muscle movement to avoid the “frozen BOTOX® look”. That way, no one will ever know you had anything done to look your best.
BOTOX® is made from a purified derivative of the bacteria clostridium botulinum, a natural ingredient that limits movement in facial muscles that are responsible for causing wrinkles and expression lines. It is injected under the skin on the face to erase lines around the eyes, on the forehead, and between the eyebrows, also known as 11 lines or eyebrow furrows.
Unlike fillers that plump up wrinkles, BOTOX® works by temporarily paralyzing muscle movement, preventing patients from being able to make crow's feet and frown lines.
BOTOX® works by blowing specific chemical nerve signals that would normally cause the facial muscles to contract upon making facial expressions. With the muscles at rest, the skin remains in a relaxed position. This helps smooth fine lines and wrinkles, also known as dynamic wrinkles or expression lines. While the muscle is temporarily relaxed for several months, patients enjoy a youthful expression. Since the wrinkles are smoothed and the face relaxed, it prevents deep creases from forming in the skin, thereby staving off aging skin. In preventing facial lines from being made, BOTOX® can also prevent these lines from worsening.
How Long Do the Benefits of BOTOX® Last?
BOTOX® results typically start to appear within 24 to 48 hours following the injections. The full results of BOTOX® take approximately 10-14 days to become visible. BOTOX® results generally last up to three or four months.
At that point, facial lines gradually return to their pre-treatment appearance, or treatment can be repeated ahead of time. BOTOX® is considered the gold standard when it comes to treating wrinkles and expression lines in the upper third of the face. However, in the rare event that a patient is not responsive to the active ingredient in BOTOX®, various other wrinkle injections may provide the desired effect. When you notice the effects of BOTOX® gradually beginning to wear off, facial muscle movement returns to its pre-treated condition. There is no harm in discontinuing BOTOX®, although the vast majority of patients fall in love with the smooth, youthful skin that BOTOX® provides, desiring to maintain the look for as long as possible. To maintain the BOTOX® results and continue enjoying young-looking skin, it is best to come in for a touch-up once the product has mostly worn away.
BOTOX® is one of the all-time, most extensively studied esthetic treatments provided by physicians. It has been reviewed in more than 400 medical journal articles and has been used in the United State for over 15 years. BOTOX® is FDA-approved and a long track record of safety and efficacy.
While the treatment is considered safe and millions of BOTOX® treatments have been performed worldwide, that does not rule out all risks that come with virtually all cosmetic medical procedures. Patients will be advised of all possible BOTOX® risks and side effects prior to treatment.
Dr. Lipeles is pleased to answer any questions or conners you might have about the BOTOX® procedure. At Marina, we empower patients to may informed decisions prior to having any cosmetic procedures done.
BOTOX® injections take only minutes to perform and require no downtime. Dr. Lipeles may ask you to make facial expressions in order to determine the exact muscle(s) that should be treated with BOTOX®
This may including frowning to exaggerate 11 lines or brow furrows, raising the eyebrows to mark out the horizontal forehead lines, or squinting the eyes to determine the precise location of crow’s feet. Once the BOTOX® is prepared, the procedure begins.
And because the needles used to administer BOTOX® are so thin, patients generally describe the sensation as feeling like a tolerable pinch. However, anyone who is especially sensitive or fears needles can have a topical numbing cream applied 30 minutes before their treatment. Most patients are pleasantly surprised to find that BOTOX® does not hurt, even if they do not choose to have topical numbing cream. Even patients that are scared of needles find that the appointment is quick and easy. In addition to ensuring you have a great cosmetic result, it is our goal to make the procedure as comfortable and painless as possible.
BOTOX® is a lunch-time procedure, so patients can return to work and daily activities except exercise the same day. The most common side effects of BOTOX® are temporary redness or swelling at the injection site.
For many patients, this effect lasts only minutes, or up to one hour. Others with more sensitive skin may notice it takes a few hours to fully subside. Mild tenderness in the treated area is normal on the first day of the procedure. Some patients may also experience a slight headache after BOTOX® injections. Note that not all patients experience a headache from BOTOX®, however, it is somewhat common and not considered an adverse reaction to the procedure. Please consult with Dr. Lipeles before taking any prescription or over-the-counter pain medication for headaches. Motrin is generally a good choice.
